Tony moved to Matlock in 1980. He is married with three daughters, now grown up and living elsewhere. They attended Ernest Bailey and later Highfields Schools before going to University.
His first career was as a civil engineer working for Lehane McKenzie and Shand at Darley Dale. In 1987 he took a post graduate certificate in Secondary Teaching and worked as a teacher of Economics in Ripley until retirement in 2004.
During his time in Matlock he has had the privilege of enjoying a wide variety of interests in the town, including election to the Town Council in 2000, representing Starkholmes and Riber. He was elected Mayor of Matlock in 2001/2 and throughly enjoyed the honour.
In addition to Tony's work on the Council, he is a member of several organisations in the Town including the Matlock Eaubonne Twinning Association, All Saints' Primary School, Matlock Neighbourhood Watch, Wirksworth Deanery Synod and alas the now defunct Tawney House Management Committee. Tony is an active member of the Matlock in Bloom Committee.
In the elections in May 2007, Tony was elected to DDDC. He represents All Saints' Ward.
His other interests include, gardening - he says "with more enthusiasm than talent, I fear" - travelling, singing - "again more enthusiasm than talent" - walking and theatre.
"I firmly believe that Matlock is one of the best places in England in which to live and I want to make my contribution to making it even better. We have our problems, but the Town Council is a way of helping to overcome them and making Matlock even better. I look forward to playing my part in Matlock's future for us all."
