Sue has lived in Matlock for 28 years and works in the Learning Support Department at Highfields School, Matlock, is married to Martin, also a Town Councillor, and has two grown up daughters.

She was elected to Matlock Town Council and to Derbyshire Dales District Council in 2003, and was Deputy Mayor of Matlock in 2005/6 and becoming Mayor of Matlock in May 2006.

Sue is a member of Matlock-Eaubonne Twinning Association  Committee, is a Community Governor of Castle View Primary School in Matlock and a Non-voting observer of Mid-Derbyshire CAB.

"During my time on the Town Council and District Council, I have always endeavoured to represent the views of my constituents and I try to be a link between the Council and the often complicated procedures of local government.

Matlock is a town in which I am proud to live – the whole community needs to work together to make it even better."

Mayor's Award for 2006-7

Retiring Matlock Mayor for 2006/7, Cllr Sue Burfoot, awarded certificates to several people for their exceptional services to local charities and voluntary groups, over many years. Those presented with certificates were - Val Alcock for her work for Mencap and Starkholmes Gala, Jo and Lynne Clarke for their dedication to local music, especially the Derbyshire Singers over many years, Tod Dakin for his tireless efforts for the Matlock Talking Newspaper for the Blind and Rotary Club, Ken Parker, local environmental campaigner and long serving Secretary of Matlock Civic Association, and Ian Garritty for his services to Matlock All Saints Church and other organisations.  

Sue said: "Matlock is a town full of unsung heroes prepared to devote their time and energy to the well being of the community. As Mayor, I was more than pleased to be able to recognise their contributions to our town."
