Martin has a founder member of the Town Council in 1983 and has been Environment spokesperson for most of the time ever since; currently lead member for the Environment; Mayor 1989-90; a leading councillor on the Matlock in Bloom committee over the past decade.

Married to Sue (Mayor 2006-7) with two grown-up daughters.

Martin works as a Landscape Architect for the Peak District National Park Authority. He is a founder member of Matlock Civic Association, Matlock-Eaubonne Twinning Association and Matlock Flags Group and is a member of the Wild Thyme Community Garden group. He is also an active member of Derbyshire Singers and All Saints Church Choir.
