Profile:

I am a metallurgical engineer by background. I have worked in research and development, plant design and construction, and project management, in the power generation industry for over 25 years, and latterly was head of a research facility. More recently I have been an independent consultant in fracture and fatigue analysis of engineering structures. I moved to Derbyshire in 1992, and have lived in Matlock for the last 13 years. I live at the bottom of the High Tor Trail, along with my wife who is an ex-nurse, and our 3 donkeys.

My personal interests include sport and leisure of all kinds, with long distance and fell running as one of my principle activities. I am treasurer of Matlock AC, and through this organise one of the top 10 marathons in the country, run over the High Peak Trails. This brings in some 2000 visitors to Matlock for the race weekend, which adds several 10s of thousands of pounds worth of business to the community.

I also have an interest in the quality of the environment, in all senses of that word. My scientific background gives me the facility to understand the finer points of the debate on climate change, to decide which parts of the argument are valid and which are not, and to make informed judgements on the technology proposed to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions.
