David was born in 1939 and educated locally at Woodlands and the Ernest Bailey Grammar School, he spent thirty five years in Banking with the then Midland bank at branches mainly in Derbyshire Nottingham and Loughborough but has always lived in Matlock; taking early retirement in 1991; he is unmarried.

David was last years Mayor. He has been a member of the Town Council since its inception in 1983 and has been Mayor twice before and Member Treasurer for many years until 2007. Additionally he has represented Derbyshire Dales Council for the All Saints ward since 1987.

He is President of Matlock and Darley Dale Branch of the Royal British Legion, a Governor of All Saints Infants School, a member of the Civilian Committee of 140 Squadron Air Training Corps, a Trustee of Cavendish Fields Sports Association and a member of Matlock Civic Association as well as several other clubs and societies.

Interests: foreign holidays, walking, photography, gardening and the future of Matlock.

"I have always taken a keen interest in local affairs and think Matlock is a great place to live. I know that I have contributed to many improvements the Council has made to the town in the past and I am pleased to be part of the current regeneration programme.
I am always willing to chat to people about their problems, concerns or ideas. I am often told that everybody knows David Barker so you only have to stop me in the street or phone me at home to get my attention. "
