Barrie has lived in Matlock with Diana his wife for about 20 years and has two adult children.

He was a Police Officer for 30 years, helping people solve problems and keeping the area safe. On his retirement in 1997, he became a shop manager, but still felt there was a lot he could do for the community and was elected to Matlock Town Council 7 years ago.

Barrie is a founder member and Chair of the Matlock Area Recreation and Sports Group. A non-political group working hard for the development of a new swimming pool/leisure centre in the Derbyshire Dales.

In his spare time he is actively involved in raising money for charity, particularly through Derbyshire Freemasons, of which he is an enthusiastic member.
