Matlock Town Council were proud to coordinate the annual Poppy Appeal collection in Matlock during this special Centenary Year.  The total raised in 2018 was £17,465.55.

The Town Council would like to thank the Poppy Appeal Collectors who give up so much time to distribute the collection tins to local businesses, schools and organisations.  A special mention also to the Matlock Air Training Corps and Army Cadet Force who both carried out street collections in the weeks leading up to Remembrance.

Once again our local supermarket Sainsbury’s kindly offered the foyer in their store as a location for the Royal British Legion collection stall. The Sainsbury’s stall alone collected over £9000 in two weeks thanks to the tireless efforts of a group of volunteers.

Councillor Steve Flitter, who is the Town Council representative for the Poppy Appeal, said ‘I am delighted that we have collected so much money for such a worthwhile cause and thank the people of Matlock for their generosity.  This amazing total is the most we have ever collected in the district.  I know the Royal British Legion will put this money to very good use providing financial, social and emotional support to veterans and members of the British Armed Forces, their families and dependents’
