Discover Denefields
Denefields is made up of two ancient fields crossed by footpaths, situated on a slope just above the town centre of Matlock.
Protected from urban development these meadowlands and hedgerows host an abundance of native plant species and wildlife.
Discover Denefields aims to promote community involvement in preserving the natural character of the site and to increase opportunities for public enjoyment and appreciation of its heritage.
The Role of Volunteer Rangers
Regular volunteer activities will be held on site. You can choose how often you want to be involved and work at a pace that suits your ability.
Activities will include
Planting trees, shrubs and bulbs
Hedgerow laying
Enhancing entrance ways
Cleaning up 'grot spots'
Creating wildlife habitats
Clearing scrub
Establishing wild flowers
Organising community events
Training, materials, protective clothing and equipment will be provided.
