Victorian Matlock Christmas Weekend
On the first Weekend in December each year, Matlock hosts a Christmas Weekend in Hall Leys Park in the centre of Town. You can expect to find over 170 stalls (local / European produce and craft), live entertainment and fun for all the family throughout the weekend. This is combined with the “switch-on” of the Town’s Christmas lights (Saturday) and Fireworks (Sunday) that light up the skies of Matlock.
The Town’s illuminations have become a major attraction in recent years with visitors travelling from far and wide to enjoy the spectacle.
The Christmas Weekend opens at 10.00am on Friday and at 9.30am on Saturday and Sunday. Santa comes into town and can be found in his Grotto, run by the Lions. The Mayor accompanies our celebrity guest and Santa in style as evening falls, leading a parade through the Town Centre on a horse drawn carriage to Hall Leys Park for the grand light switch-on.
The event welcomes an estimated 20,000 visitors over the weekend. People come from Matlock and surrounding villages and new visitors from far & wide as well as grandparents with fond memories of holidays in Matlock bringing their grandchildren.
